The Open Door
Invitingly, the door stands open. Waiting.
Where does this guarded path lead?
What surprises are hidden inside?
Will you walk on by, or turn and enter in?
I gathered courage and passed through the doorway,
stepping up the path beside a stone wall
accompanied by creeping ivy.
I could hear pleasant music and sounds of gentle laughter.
I breathed in delicious scents of floral bouquets.
At the end of the wall, the landscape revealed a vast and lush lawn,
with winding brick pathways and flower gardens,
surrounding a majestic two-story home.
A party was underway on the lawn...
people enjoying a rich buffet of food, drink, and each other.
They turned and warmly welcomed me as I approached.
And then I knew.
This was not an unknown person's garden that was so delighting me.
It was my own.
It was not another's party that inspired such joy and laughter,
but my own natural inner celebration.
The door had not offered me some outer influences
to provide what I sought.
It had invited me to come within.
The door stands open. Waiting.
Will you walk on by, or turn and enter in?
